Aurora Expeditions API

Overview

Over the last 8 months, Aurora Expeditions has been working behind the scenes to develop new and improved methods of distributing our Expedition-related information to Trade Partners and Agencies. Historically, this information was provided via manual methods – such as spreadsheets, flat files or a combination of both.

Having such a dynamic product, coupled with our small-ship offering, meant that providing up to date, accurate information was crucial to the success of our Partners, and ultimately, ourselves. With this in mind, we embarked on a journey to identify a method that would not only cater to our Partners, but allow for our ongoing growth and expansion into new ships, destinations and product offerings.

Approach

Projects like this can, at times, take many years to complete – resulting in many years of frustration for both our Teams and our Partners – which is why we have decided on a phased approach. A phased approach means we can provide updated and enhanced functionality to you now, whilst continuing to build and update the project as we receive feedback and input from those using it.

Phase 1

In the 1st phase of our API Project, we are exposing the following information to registered Partners:

  • Berth availability and pricing
  • Activity availability (such as Sea Kayaking, Snorkelling) and pricing
  • Current EarlyBird promotion(s)
  • Itinerary map
  • Itinerary overviews: highlights / inclusions / exclusions / summary
  • Itinerary details: day to day summaries (as found on our website)
  • Itinerary administration: important dates / ports / cities / ship / destinations

We welcome any feedback from our registered Partners on the above, and whether we have missed or excluded information or details that would prove useful.

Phase 2

Stay tuned!

General Platform Setup

Platform Overview

The Aurora Expeditions Product and Reservations System is built on Salesforce CRM architecture, and utilizes the Kaptio Travel Platform. The API we have prepared is a REST API.

Currency

Aurora Expeditions operates primarily in the following currencies:

  • U.S. Dollar (USD): Applicable for all regions
  • Australian Dollar (AUD): Applicable for our Arctic and Global Programs
  • British Pound Sterling (GBP): Applicable for our Arctic and Global Programs
  • The Euro (EUR): Applicable for our Arctic and Global Programs
Terminology

While referencing the API, you may encounter terminology different from standard industry terms. Below is a short list of commonly used terms, and how they relate to the industry:

Package: The Package relates to our Expeditions, as they often include more than just your berth in a cabin. Depending on the destination or itinerary, the Expedition may include additional accommodation, transfers, tours or charter flights.

Sailing: Like the Package above, a Sailing relates to our Expeditions – but from a slightly different viewpoint. A Sailing will provide more administrative information relating to the Expedition, like start or end dates and ship information.

Service: The Service is the Voyage component within the Package. This is used to manage inventory and cabin categories (see Price Category below)

Price Category: The Price Category is the internal name for the Cabin Category on any of our Voyages

Start / Embark / End / Disembark: The Start and End Dates refer to the package start and end. The Embark and Disembark Dates refer to the service start and end.

Security

Throughout this initial launch phase, we have implemented Basic Authentication Protocols. As we onboard more Partners and begin to further understand the usage of the API, we will introduce additional layers of security, as required.

Image Library

Below you will find approved ship and stateroom imagery that you can use to populate any systems related to the API. If you have specific requirements, or require additional imagery, please reach out to us via your Aurora Expeditions Representative.
