Aurora Sponsors Australian Geographic Society Awards

Aurora Expeditions will again be a main sponsor of the Australian Geographic Society awards next week, presenting the ‘Adventurer of the Year’ award.

For the first time, the event will be a major fundraiser for the Society as well as a glittering occasion where the spirit of adventure will be recognised and honoured. Guests will rub shoulders with the best and brightest in adventure, exploration and conservation – the men and women whose exploits have provided so many highlights in the pages of Australian Geographic.

Aurora have been working for the AG Society since our inception, and support the society through a donation of profits from our expeditions to the Kimberley Coast. Working with the society we help to raise awareness of conservation of this important region of Australia.

The Awards evening will be hosted by AGS trustee and TV personality (and former Aurora expeditioner) Sorrel Wilby, with journalist and author Peter FitzSimons as keynote speaker. The evening’s theme will be Antarctica, a topic very close to Peter’s heart as author of the hugely successful book, Mawson and the Ice Men of the Heroic Age: Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen. The annual AGS awards for adventure and conservation will be presented, plus some special 25th anniversary awards for sustained achievement.

There’ll be entertainment, great food and wine, a silent auction of unique Society memorabilia, and the chance to win other outstanding prizes, including adventure holidays. In addition, every ticket holder will receive a free Australian Geographic goodie bag. Anyone lucky enough to have attended our 2010 awards, when Buzz Aldrin was our special guest of honour, will know what a life-affirming experience it is to hear, firsthand, stories from our award winners, and to publicly acknowledge their achievements.

There are still spaces available to attend this fabulous night and help this great cause raise important funds for the Society, in order to continue to encourage the spirit of adventure for our future generations.
